How to import an XML document into a Déjà Vu project

Filter definition file

To be able to import an XML document into a Déjà Vu project, you must first create a Filter Definition File. Without this, Déjà VU will not be able to extract any text from an XML document. Click here to find out how to create a Filter Definition File.

Importing an XML document

Once you have created a filter definition file appropriate for the XML documents you wish to import, you can add the documents to your project. This is done in much the same way that any other translatable document is added to a Déjà Vu project, so we recommend that you read the article for that, here, first.

The only other thing you need to take into account when you are adding an XML document to a Déjà Vu project is that you must specify what Filter Definition File you want to use before you import the documents. To find out how to do that, click on the version of Déjà Vu you are using, below:

Adding files to project during project creation

  1. If you follow the New Project Wizard you will eventually come to the Specify location of source files page:
  2. Select the XML files you added to the project, and then click Properties....
  3. The Filter Options dialog appears:
  4. Click on the Filter Definition File field:
  5. Then click the button labelled ...:
  6. The Select Name and Location of Filter File dialog appears:
  7. Use it to locate and select the Filter Definition File you created, then click Open.
  8. Click OK:
  9. Click Next >:
  10. Click Finish:
  11. The project will be created, and the XML document will be imported using the Filter Definition File you created.

Using the Project Explorer

If you have already created a project and added XML documents to it, you can use the Project Explorer to specify what Filter Definition File you want to use to import the documents. To do so:

  1. Select the XML document in the Project Explorer:
  2. Click on the Click on the Filter Definition File field.
  3. Click the button labelled ...:
  4. The Select Name and Location of Filter File dialog appears:
  5. Use it to locate and select the Filter Definition File you created, then click Open.
  6. The Filter Definition File will be assigned to the document.
  7. You can now right-click on the document in the Project Explorer and click Import or Reimport:
  8. The file will be imported into the project using the Filter Definition File you created.

Adding files to project during project creation

  1. Select the XML document in the Project Explorer:
  2. Click on the Click on the Filter Definition File field.
  3. Click the button labelled ...:
  4. The Select Name and Location of Filter File dialog appears:
  5. Use it to locate and select the Filter Definition File you created, then click Open.
  6. The Filter Definition File will be assigned to the document.
  7. You can now right-click on the document in the Project Explorer and click Import or Reimport:
  8. The file will be imported into the project using the Filter Definition File you created.
