XML errors

Note that it is possible for a document to be fully compliant with the XML standard but still have other problems that make it unreadable.

Déjà Vu supports several formats that are based on the XML standard. These include:

  • Custom XML filters
  • XLIFF and SDLXLIFF
  • Office 2007/2010 Open XML
  • OpenOffice
  • Indesign IDML
  • Visio XML
  • TMX

Sometimes documents in these formats will have what are called XML errors, i.e. content that violates one of more of the rules of the XML standardnote. When this happens, it is very difficult, or even impossible, to process the document correctly, and thus Déjà Vu (and other applications that work with XML) will not be able to work with these documents.

If you find that Déjà Vu is unable to import a document in one of these formats, the possibility of there being XML errors should be the first thing you consider. There are many applications, including online applications, that can be used to check a document to make sure that it does not contain errors of this type. Some of them will even provide enough information for you to edit the document manually and correct the problem (this should, of course, be done with care).

Here is a partial list of XML Validators you can use to check your documents:

Bear in mind that ATRIL is not affiliated with these services in any way. Also, this is not by any means an exhaustive list of the XML Validators available.
