Is Déjà Vu compatible with Mac OS X?

The USB controller implemented by VirtualBox is not compatible with Déjà Vu X2. Therefore, Déjà Vu X2 will not be able to run in a VirtualBox VM, even if you do not intend to use a USB dongle to activate it. Déjà Vu X3 does not have this problem, since it doesn't use dongles at all.

Déjà Vu can only run under Windows. This article shows which specific versions are supported. Déjà Vu can only run with Intel-based processors. Macs that use the newer ARM-based processors (such as the M1) cannot run Déjà Vu, even under Windows.

Running Déjà Vu

It is possible to run Déjà Vu on an Apple Mac as long as Déjà Vu itself is running under Windows. There are currently 2 ways to do this:

  1. Install Windows in a Virtual Machine. In this setup, Déjà Vu runs under Windows, which runs inside the VM which in turn runs under Mac OS. Depending on the versions of all the applications you use, there may be an impact to the performance of Déjà Vu compared to running it natively under Windows in a PC. In addition to this, Déjà Vu's dongles do not work in VMs: if you are planning to use Déjà VU X2 in this setup, make sure to purchase an activation code instead of a dongle.
  2. Install Windows directly on the Mac and dual boot. This is not supported by older Macs, but newer Intel-based Macs can run Windows directly, without the need for a VM, by allowing you to create separate partitions for Windows and Mac OS to run in, independent of one another. This setup is functionally identical to running Déjà Vu under Windows in a PC.

Both of these solutions will require a license of Windows, and the first will require purchasing an emulator, unless you decide to use a freely available emulatornote.

Translating Office documents

In order to import and export Office 2003 documents (.doc, .xls, .ppt, etc.) Déjà Vu X and X2 need a working copy of Office installed in the system. It needs to be Office for Windows. Office for MacOS cannot be used for this purpose. Office for Windows is also required to import any document with CodeZapper activated.

This does not apply to Office 2007/2010 format documents (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx, etc.), or the new Microsoft Office Live filter in Déjà Vu X3. Both of these filters work independently of Office.
