Déjà Vu X2, and X3 both support PDF files. Déjà Vu uses a 3rd party component to convert PDF documents to RTF format, and then imports the resulting RTF into the project. All this is done automatically by Déjà Vu when you import a PDF document into the project.

The converter used by Déjà Vu cannot convert text that appears in images to real text. This is particularly important when importing PDF documents created from scanned documents.

Use PDF Converter in Word 2013

If you have a copy of Microsoft Word 2013 installed on your computer, Déjà Vu X3 can use it to convert PDF files to Word format, and then import the Word document into a project. If you enable this option, the use of Word to convert the PDF will happen automatically, in the background.

This option was included to cater to users who prefer the results produced by Word's PDF converter. The PDF converter included in Déjà Vu X3 and the one included in Word 2013 will sometimes produce different results, and depending on the layout of the PDF file itself and your own aesthetic preferences, you may prefer one or the other.

Use textboxes for layout

This option instructs the converters used by Déjà Vu X3 to use textboxes to control the placement of text in the converted RTF or Word file that gets imported into a project. This option can produce a better formatted, easier to work with converted file in some situations, e.g. PDF files that contain text inside tables.
