How to import a TXT or CSV file into a TM

This article will walk you through the process of importing delimited text files (tab, comma, etc.) into a Déjà Vu Translation Memory. The instructions are slightly different depending on the version of Déjà Vu you are using. Select your version of Déjà Vu below:

  1. With an open translation memory, click File>Import>External Data.
  2. The Translation Memory Import Wizard appears.
  3. Click Next.
  4. The wizard prompts you to specify an import format. Select Text to import a multilingual comma-separated value file (.csv).
  5. Select Text and click Next.
  6. Select the text file you want to import and click Open. The wizard displays the current settings.
  7. Click Next. The wizard displays the data of the file and allows you to adjust the delimiter settings.
  8. Select the delimiter of your original file (in this case Comma), and check the appropriate option if the first row contains field names.
  9. Click Next. The wizard now allows you to specify the field information for the fields of your original file.
    • Main Segment (typically the source language)
    • Translation
    • Date
    • User ID
    • Subject
    • Client
  10. Select Main Lemma and the appropriate language and code page settings for the source language, and Translation, the appropriate language, relation, and code page settings for the target languages.
  11. Click Next.
  12. The wizard displays the current settings. Click Next.
  13. The wizard displays the import progress; when it is finished, it shows how many records have been added.
  14. Click Close and you are returned to your translation memory view. If you now look for one of the imported segments, you will find that it has been imported with English as the source language and the different specified languages as target languages.
  1. With an open Translation Memory, open the section of the Ribbon called External Data>Import and then click on Text.
  2. The Translation Memory Import Wizard appears.
  3. Click on Select.
  4. Select the text file you want to import and click Open. The wizard displays the current settings.
  5. Click Next. The wizard displays the data of the file and allows you to adjust the delimiter settings.
  6. Select the delimiter of your original file (in this case Comma), and check the appropriate option if the first row contains field names.
  7. Click Next. The wizard now allows you to specify the field information for the fields of your original file.

    The available standard fields are:
    • Main Segment (typically the source language)
    • Translation
    • Date
    • User ID
    • Subject
    • Client
  8. Select Main Segment and the appropriate language and code page settings for the source language, and Translation and the appropriate language and code page settings for the target languages.
  9. In Additional options you can check the option Remove duplicate segments if you want Déjà Vu X3 to automatically remove any duplicated terms form the file you are importing.
  10. Click on Next.
  11. Déjà Vu X3 will import the terms and let you know when it has finished.
