Import an Excel spreadsheet into a Déjà Vu TM

1. Open your Translation Memory.
2. Access the menu option: File>Import>File or Database.
3. Select Excel 95/97/2000/XP as the import format. This step is not necessary in Déjà Vu X3, since you already specified what format you want to import.
4. Click Next.
5. Select the Excel spreadsheet you want to import.
6. Click Next.
7. Check the option First rows as field names.
8. Check the option Import As in Field1, and select Main Segment, and choose the appropriate language.
9. The encoding can usually be left as it is, since Déjà Vu will guess the correct value, but if you find that some characters are not imported correctly into Déjà Vu, you can choose a different encoding yourself. Déjà Vu shows you a preview of the text it will extract at the bottom of the window, so you can check that the text is being extracted correctly.
10. Do steps 7 and 9 again for the rest of the fields, but this time, instead of importing them as Main Segment, import them as Translation.
11. Click Next, then Finish.

The entries should be added to the Translation Memory.

1. Open your Translation Memory.
2. In the External Data section of the ribbon, in the Import part, click Excel:
   
3. The Translation Memory Import Wizard opens:
   
4. Click Select to specify the Excel Spreadsheet that you want to import.
5. Click Next.
6. The Specify Excel Import Options page appears:
   
7. If the spreadsheet you selected has titles in the columns, check the box labelled First Row Contains Field Names. That way, the titles on the columns will not be imported as if they were terms.note
   
8. Click Next.
9. The wizard now allows you to specify the field information for the fields of your original file.
   
   The available standard fields are:
   • Main Segment (typically the source language)
   • Translation
   • Date
   • User ID
   • Subject
   • Client
10. Select the first field in the list and click Import As:.
11. Select Main Segment and the appropriate language.
    For the Code Page you can select Unicode (UTF-8), which is usually correct for Excel spreadsheets. You can look at the Preview pane to see a previw of the text that will be extracted, so you will know if yout Code Page you have selected is appropriate.
12. Then, select the next field and click Import As:.
13. Select Translation in the box, and the appropriate language and code page settings for the target language.
    
14. Click Next.
15. In Additional options you can check the option Remove duplicate segments if you want Déjà Vu X3 to automatically remove any duplicated terms form the file you are importing.
    
16. Click Next.
17. Déjà Vu X3 will import the terms and let you know when it has finished.
    

The entries should be added to the Translation Memory.
