How to use Déjà Vu on several computers

You can install Déjà Vu on as many computers as you like, but you will only be able to use it on one computer at a time. This means that in an environment with several translators it is necessary to have one license of Déjà Vu per translator, but an individual translator can use Déjà Vu on a desktop computer and also on a laptop when they are away from their desktop computer, or use Déjà Vu on a second computer if the first one is out of order.

Click on one of the headings below to see how to do this with the version of Déjà Vu you are using.

Installing Déjà Vu X2 on other computers

Installing Déjà Vu X2 on several computers is no more difficult than installing it on one. The Installation Guide for Déjà Vu X2 explains how to do this. If you have an installation of Déjà Vu X2 that you have configured to your liking you can copy the settings from it to other installations on other computers.

Activating Déjà Vu X2 on other computers

A license of Déjà Vu X2 can only be activated on one computer at a time. The way you do this depends on what activation system you are using. Déjà Vu X2 supports two different systems: the dongle, and the activation code. The Installation Guide for Déjà Vu X2 has a section that explains how to activate Déjà Vu X2.

If you are using a dongle to activate Déjà Vu X2

Activating Déjà Vu X2 with a dongle is very simple. All you need to do is to insert the dongle into a USB port in your computer, wait for Windows to detect it, and then run Déjà Vu X2. When it starts, Déjà Vu X2 looks for a dongle and, if it finds one, it reads the settings of the dongle and activates accordingly. You can take your dongle and connect it to another computer, and the copy of Déjà Vu X2 running on that computer will find it and activate.

Therefore, if you have a dongle, you can use Déjà Vu X2 on any computer just by connecting the dongle to it.

If you are using an activation code to activate Déjà Vu X2

An activation code for Déjà Vu X2 can be thought of as a "virtual dongle". When you validate an activation code in Déjà Vu X2, that code will become tied to the specific computer you have validated it on. If you try to validate it on another computer, Déjà Vu X2 will check with our activation server, find that the code is already in use somewhere else, and reject it. Déjà Vu X2 will inform you on that fact.

If you want to use the activation code on another computer, you must deactivate Déjà Vu X2 on the first computer. When you deactivate a copy of Déjà Vu X2, it tells our activation server that the code is no longer being used, so when you try to use it again, our activation server will recognize the code as being free, and will allow its use.

Therefore, if you are activating Déjà Vu X2 with a code and you want to use it on another computer, you must make sure to deactivate Déjà Vu X2 on your current computer first in order to free up the activation code for use. By deactivating and activating as needed, you can use Déjà Vu X2 on several computers with only one code, but only on one computer at a time.
